Parenthood...take one

Baby Andrew
2 Months Old

Our first experiences at parenthood are ones we don't quickly forget. There are those moments of overwhelmance, when you look at this helpless life and all he requires and think how amazing he is, yet at the same time how much time and energy he takes. Then there are those moments of pure panic when you swear he hasn't taken a breath in over a minute so you go poke him awake even though he is going to cry, just to be safe. Then they get those 2 month shots and you have to hold them and try not to tense and then look into their eyes afterward and you feel pure selflessness wishing you could have done it for them. And eventually comes a time when you can't believe what just happened.... you walk away carrying him to the changing table and find a whole trail of perfectly replicated pureed sweet potato lunch upon your return from the blowout that reached his hair, frustration!!! So many emotions come along with parenting, none we would give up for the memories to remanice of course.

Andrew was a very sweet, content, calm baby. He was born in my second year and Wayne's..... well lets call it his 1st "Super Senior Year". It was his second year at Chadron State as a Math Education Major, but his 5th -ish year at college. Engineering for a year and some at UW in Laramie, a yearish at School of Mines in Rapid, a year off at Menards University and then Chadron where we met, though not to be his last school.

Campus Apartments, Life in Chadron....

We had many big events that first year as a family. Wayne and I got married in June in my hometown in Nebraska. We moved from our rental trailer to campus apartments then onto bigger and better. We transferred colleges to Black Hills State University and made a big move to Spearfish, South Dakota.
Andrew got his own room for the first time and we had neat things like a washer AND dryer hook ups, a dishwasher and air conditioning!!!! It was the high life!!!

Moving Day.....

It took a while to adjust but once we did we loved it! There was so much to do in the hills and Spearfish was beautiful. We quickly found some friends and enjoyed classes, work and daycare.
Andrew's first school was Sunrise Academy in the old central school building in Spearfish. They ran a Montessori based curriculum and the ladies in the infant room were amazing. The second year there things started to deteriate and we had to switch. My first job in Spearfish was at the college daycare and Wayne worked for the athletic department. After a semester I switched to the athletic department as well.

Life was good. So good that when Andrew turned a year old and was no longer such a baby and friends began to prepare for new babies, baby fever set in for us…..
